Biography

Hannah is an award winning multi-faceted Costume Designer of film, television, commercials and music videos. Whilst studying illustration at Kingston University she started experimenting with fabric and soon realised that the most natural form of expression for her was through clothing design, fabric, cut, and their joint potentials.

In her early career she became apprentice to east London couturier and corset maker Lyall Hakaraia where she learnt the finer skills required to shape high quality garments of all fantastical types. She went on to work in fringe theatre in London where she was able to explore her talent for story telling using costume.

Having always had a true passion for social history she worked at Angels the Costumiers which she balanced alongside her theatre work. During this time Hannah created iconic clothing for the artist Roisin Murphy. Her talents were later recognised by bigger artists including Kanye West for whom she designed the 2008 Glow in the Dark Tour.

Her network expanded into promos collaborating with Nima Nourizadeh and Saam Farahman, and subsequently Daniel Wolfe with whom she has collaborated many times making her first move into film with ‘Catch Me Daddy’. Another fruitful relationship has been with the director Romain Gavras, the most notable collaborations being the short film for Louis Vuitton featuring David Bowie, BadGirls promo for the artist M.I.A and Romain’s French feature film Le Monde est a Toi along with many other music promos and commercials.

She continues to show huge diversity in her work across all genres from fantasy, to historical biopic, and contemporary pieces always looking to express a real sense of truth in every character through their costume. Most recently she designed the television series Adult Material for Channel 4 directed by Dawn Shadforth, The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself for Netflix directed by Colm McCarthy, and DaliLand directed by Mary Harron.
